Abstract. 2020 marks the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union and the Institute of History and Ethnology celebrates the 75th anniversary of its foundation. The article discusses the participation of scientists from the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography named after Ch.Ch. Valikhanov in the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union: аcademicians of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR Nusupbekov A.N., Tulepbaev T.B., Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR G.F. Dakhshleiger, doctors of historical sciences, professors Argynbaev Kh.A. and Balakaev T.B. The data of their combat path on the war fronts, deserved awards are given. They came to the Institute after the end of the Great Patriotic War as junior researchers and postgraduate students and went the way to academicians and professors. All front-line scientists stood at the origins of the formation and development of academic historical science. The contribution of frontline scientists to the development of various priority areas of historical science at that time is shown. The article contains the main monographs and articles of scientists. The historians mentioned in the article represent the «golden fund» of historians of the generation of organizers of academic historical science, who have made an invaluable contribution to its development.
