Abstract. The article focuses on the epistols of Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences Anna Mikhailovna Pankratova (1894-1980) to her friends, including those from Kazakhstan. was written on June 15, 1944, and reflects heated discussions, details of a closed meeting in the Central Committee of the CPSU (b) in May-July 1944, with the participation of a number of Central Committee secretaries and the most prominent historians. The message reproduces the arguments of the participants around the discussed textbook on the history of Kazakhstan in 1943. A.M. Pankratova’s epistolary legacy is characterized by the conditions for the preparation and publication of such a unique publication, the discussions that arose, especially when disclosing the national liberation movement of the Kazakh people. Finally, it allows us to determine the role of the Academician in the development of the historical science of Kazakhstan. The study was carried out on the basis of sources of personal origin, including materials from the personal collection of A.M. Pankratova in the Archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which were not previously introduced into scientific circulation.
