Abstract. This article provides a brief historiographic review of some aspects of the historiography of the history of studying the problem of the tragic fate of Kazakhs who were forced to migrate outside the republic in the 30s of the XX century. The question is raised about the importance of preserving these events and processes in modern historical memory. The object of our research is the scale, directions, consequences of the forced migration of Kazakhs in the 30s of the XX century to the near and far abroad and the reflection of events and processes of this time in domestic and foreign historiography. The subjects of the research are estimates of demographic losses, socio-cultural consequences due to the policy of the Soviet totalitarian regime in relation to the Kazakh population, changes in methodological approaches, sources and research methods used by scientists.
